During a management survey, the surveyor will identify locations of asbestos and ACMs. The surveyor may also take samples of bulk materials to confirm whether or not the material contains asbestos. The bulk materials will be sent to an accredited laboratory for analysis to determine if asbestos is present, and if so what type of asbestos is present. As this type of sampling can damage materials, the surveyor will not take samples unless agreed with the client prior to commencing the survey.
Asbestos management surveys also include material assessments of ACMs. The material assessment is an algorithm (a mathematical formula) which estimates an ACM’s potential to release airborne asbestos fibres by assessing the current condition of the ACM. This algorithm assists the property owner in determining which ACMs are more dangerous to occupant health.
A management survey report by Forensic & Industrial Science Ltd will include an asbestos register with all identified asbestos and ACMs, a bulk sample laboratory analysis report, a material assessment algorithm and some general remediation recommendations. These reports will include all necessary information in regards to asbestos to be included in an asbestos management plan.
